Artist's Profile - STEAG Member Marcia Pensa

 MARCIA PENSA Bio

As a high school educator in the visual arts, Marcia Pensa has been actively involved with the processes and the philosophies of art on a daily basis for over 30 years. The joy has always been the delight with which young people discover their creative ideas in a visual way.  Using a wide variety of mediums, Marcia’s students developed not only drawing, sculpture, printmaking and painting skills, but learned about important artists of past history.  Field trips to Europe and to art galleries all over provided experiential and inspirational opportunities for students and teacher alike.

Now, happily in retirement, Marcia is pursuing the same delight on a personal level as the time has come to practice what she has preached!  Although acrylics were the medium of choice in Marcia’s 20’s and 30’s, she turned to watercolour in her forties, and now is working in oil.  Perhaps there will be a return to acrylics in the future.
Marcia’s primary interests in her subject matter are composition, point-of-view perspective, and the subtleties of texture and colour to create focus.  She believes paintings are meant to be appreciated again and again.  One can appreciate new elements each time a favourite painting is noticed.  A painting is a playground for the eye and the mind and should bring a sense of eagerness and pleasure.

Through her travel experiences and responses to landscape, genre, and still life, Marcia Pensa’s goal is to create works that bring the viewer into the painting through her own visual door.

Highlight from previous meeting;

At the last STEAG meeting on April 15th, we had the privilege of listening and viewing a presentation by our
feature artist Annette Martin, who shared images of her artwork as well as the work of her inspiration artist Norval Morrisseau

Annette’s creatively personal approach involves vibrant colour, distinct shapes and patterns, with themes of cityscapes, stylized nature, collage with maps, and textural surfaces.  Annette present always are the three whimsical fishes! Thank you Annette, for giving us insight into your uniquely creative paintings.

Thank you Annette Martin for sharing your artworks and the stories behind them.
